When to go: Summer
Where to go: Tunis, Hammamet, Sidi Bou Said and Carthage
Downside: Some tourist traps and some unsafe regions
Our Experiences: Hammamet is a nice summer destination with good tourism infrastructure, such as nice luxury hotels, good restaurants, parks and a beautiful beach. The nearby capital Tunis doesn´t offer good tourist attractions. Sidi bou Said is a cute elegant Mediterranean village facing the se from a hill, north of Tunis. We loved it. The best part though were the ruins of Carthage. The Romans have sadly destroyed one of the most advanced civilizations of the Mediterranean ancient world, including the city of Carthage and the magnificent functional Punic Port. A wonder of the ancient world engineering that has intimidated the Roman Empire for decades. As a retaliation, almost nothing was left standing by the Romans. We have seen many excavations still going on. Amazing place.
Hotels we love and recommend: Sofitel (Hammamet)
