When to go: Mid-Seasons ( It gets extremely hot in summer and extremely cold in the winter )
Where to go: Almaty
Downside: Some traces of communist boring bureaucracy still present.
Our Experiences: Kazakhstan is a rich oil producing state. It was a surprise for us visiting Almaty. The city is full of greens, huge parks, nice restaurants and surrounded by snow peak mountains. Very inviting. The city is pretty much European like, despite its location bordering China. Some kilometers northeast of Almaty is the most continental point on earth (The furthest from the ocean). We drove up the hills to visit some beautiful parks and turquoise water lakes. A kind if similar to the Canadian lakes.
Hotels we love and recommend: Ritz Carlton (Almaty)
