When to go: Mid-seasons
Where to go: Bogota, Zipaquira and Cartagena
Downside: Some unsafe places and political instability due to everlasting militia groups.
Our Experiences: Colombia has a recent violent history of the FARC militia groups and drug dealing industry. The capital Bogota is quite safe. We have visited the main square and cathedral and we also bought some emerald nice jewelry pieces in a nearby shopping street . They are the world´s best. There are some very nice steak houses and other restaurants in town, but we were not expect that. The Catedral de Sal in Zipaquira is an interesting place: A deactivated old salt mine converted into a church. We haven´t been yet to Cartagena, but soon we will.
Hotels we love and recommend: JW Marriott (Bogota)
