When to go: November.
Where to go: Siem Reap and lake Thonle Sap
Downside: Poverty and poor roads to drive.
Our Experiences: During the month of November the waters from the Mekong River basin reaches its maximum level. This is when the country celebrates the Water Festival. We have attended some interesting traditional events. Including a huge canoes race. We have also visited the incredible floating village of Phnom krom in the lake Thonle Sap. Everything here is floating in November, from houses to hospitals. So amazing! But the main reason that made we come here was the Khmer civilization and it´s legacy of huge temple complexes. Angkor Wat is the world´s largest religious monument and it is also the most popular site in Cambodia, but there are several others, all of them with the local astonishing architecture. Cambodia is a must go !
Hotels we love and recommend: Le Méridien (Siem Reap)
