When to go: Summer
Where to go: Honolulu, Waimea Bay and Hilo ( In the big Island )
Downside: A bit far from everywhere.
Our Experiences: The beaches of Hawaii in the summer are so beautiful. Crystal clear waters and no waves ( Normally we watch surf videos, but the big waves only occur during the winter). Waimea Bay is one of these heavenly beaches but the best is Hanauma Bay close to Honolulu, The beach is full of corals and it is a National Park. Besides the beaches there is the excellent Pearl Harbour museum, that shows us a detailed exposition of the fatal day in 1941. We have met the last alive veteran pilot, giving autographs one day. Amazing. The best of Hawaii however was the experience of walking inside the Kilawea Volcano. That was an unique experience. We took a plane to Hilo, in the Big Island and the we rented a car to drive up the slopes of the Volcano. The road ends up suddenly in a sea of solidified lava crossing our way with some danger warnings signs. From this point we walked a few minutes to reach the molten super hot red lava river in front of us. Wooow! Crazy, but amazing!.
Hotels we love and recommend: Marriott (Honolulu)
