Are they really perfect beaches ?
Maybe you have been fooled by an Instagram post with turquoise waters in Bali. Or maybe you are planning a trip to Costa Rica looking for the world´s most perfect beaches. If so, then you are going the wrong way! God created the beaches and the Nerds in Silicon Valley created the image filters. The tourism industry then joined both ends to make you travel to where they want and easily get your money. And thousands of tourists are being driven to greenish muddy waters in remote beaches throughout the world, because they all looked like paradise on a sponsored teaser.
How to avoid image filter traps?
Well, after visiting more than 300 beaches in 100+ countries, we can say that we have one of the world´s best tourist experiences concerning beaches. Let´s see some tips:
1) How to look for nice beaches ? First of all, never, ever, ever choose your destination from the Instagram. Instagram is the image filters paradise. People can change the color of anything they want and easily fool you. Sea waters are the world´s #1 color filter target. It is useless to decide your travel destination from there. Check the Google instead. Preferable watch a video (not a picture) where this is more difficult to apply filters. Secondly, the more naïve is the video, probably the more accurate the colors will be. If you only find pictures and not videos, look for the less attractive picture you may find from the place you are looking for. This will be probably reflecting the truth. Avoid hotel ads or any sort of ads. Always choose candid tourists images and videos.
2) Where to go then? Costa Rica has no good beaches at all. Actually some of the worst beaches we’ve been to. Bali is a good destination for temples, for spicy food and for nice & cheap resorts, but not for beaches! Perhaps for surfers only. The world´s best beaches are in the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. Our top ranked beaches are respectively: Bora Bora ( Best in the Pacific ); Anse Lazio ( Best in the Indian Ocean) Trunk Bay in St. John ( Best in the Caribbean) and Nissi Beach (Best in the Mediterranean).
