The glitz and glamour of the European horse racing at its best happens every first Sunday of October in Paris. The so called “Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe” is considered as the world’s greatest race. People from the whole world gather at the Lonchamp Racecourse for a whole afternoon elegant party wearing fashionable hats and fancy dresses. A must in Paris. Some of them doesn’t even like horses neither races, and they attend the event only to see people and to be seen.
The “Prix de L´Arc“ has been held at Longchamp for more than 150 years and brings in the very best Europe has to offer. After a 145 million Euro facelift that lasted for two years, the racecourse once again hosts the iconic race.
We love horseraces and we’ve been attending this event almost every edition, for over 20 years now. We recommend staying at the new top floor Panorama Restaurant, that can only be accessed with some special tickets that includes a Michelin-starred meal among some other treats. If this is your first time attending a horserace, than you will probably love the game.
For the horserace lovers: The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is a mile-and-a-half test of speed and stamina for three-year old horses and above, with the winner earning 5 million Euros. The show climax, the famous finals sees the best thoroughbreds and the best international jockeys facing off one another. Legendary jockey Frankie Dettori holds the record for most race wins, securing his sixth on defending champion Enable in 2018. The pair were set to return to attempt a “three-peat” in 2019, but they were beaten by Waldgeist in a fantastic last yards battle, under the eyes of 600 journalists and 60,000 viewers. It was truly exciting!
